Hyperliquid Weekly — HYPE drops 8.9% while fees climb 16.3%

2026-10-19 · 2026-w43

The BuyHype Bayesian model puts HYPE up-probability at 56% for 2026-w43, down from 58% a week ago; the verdict remains WAIT in both weeks. The biggest reason for the slight downgrade is the price move: HYPE is at $79.85, down 8.9% week over week, even as protocol fees rose 16.3% to $20.80M from $17.89M. Stronger fee flow against a weaker token price and softer chain liquidity is why the model stays cautious rather than turning constructive.

Fee activity was the clearest positive. Protocol fees reached $20.80M over the last seven days versus $17.89M in the prior seven days, a 16.3% increase. Core perps showed $5.15B in 24-hour volume and $11.17B in open interest. HIP-3 builder markets added breadth: 10 DEXs generated $2.14B in combined 24-hour volume, with top builder XYZ at $2.08B. The largest builder markets were xyz:SKHX at $331.60M, xyz:XYZ100 at $294.76M, xyz:SP500 at $207.34M, xyz:CL at $108.36M and xyz:TSLA at $100.14M. That range shows builder-led markets are contributing meaningful volume, though concentration in the top builder is still notable.

Chain liquidity moved the other way. DeFi TVL on Hyperliquid was $1.04B, down 6.4% week over week, and stablecoins on the chain totaled $7.10B, down 1.8%. Those declines matter because they sit alongside the higher fee number: fees can rise on trading activity even while deposited liquidity and stablecoin balances soften. The week's news flow also highlighted distribution and access. Ripple Prime added more than 100 markets, Grayscale's HYPG ETF saw $7.8M in net inflows, and CEO Jeff Yan said US access to Hyperliquid depends on regulators understanding on-chain tech. Those items are potentially supportive for broader participation, but they are not yet visible in the TVL and stablecoin figures.

Supply signals were mixed. The Assistance Fund holds 48.13M HYPE and recorded a net buyback of +0.16M HYPE over seven days. Against that, the unstaking queue shows 2.87M HYPE completing within seven days. The near-term queue is much larger than the weekly net buyback, so the supply backdrop does not fully offset the softer price and liquidity trend. HyperLink's $2.5M raise to chase 10% of Hyperliquid trading volume is another item to watch, but at this stage it is a funding headline rather than a confirmed volume shift.

Next week, watch whether the 2.87M HYPE unstaking queue completes without a matching increase in Assistance Fund buybacks, and whether protocol fees hold above $20M. This is data commentary, not financial advice.
