How to store HYPE
Where HYPE lives, how native vs EVM custody differs, what staking does to your tokens, and the safety rules that matter more than any wallet brand. Not financial advice.

Two HYPE environments
HYPE exists on Hyperliquid's own L1 (HyperCore) and, when bridged, on HyperEVM as wrapped HYPE. Trading, staking and the Assistance Fund live on HyperCore; DeFi apps, LSTs and lending live on HyperEVM. Check which environment an app expects before you send anything.
Native Hyperliquid wallets
The standard way to hold and trade HYPE is a Hyperliquid-native address created in the official app — you keep the private key and can also link an EVM wallet as your agent wallet for approvals. This is the simplest setup for trading and staking, and it is where the 4% builder-code discount applies.
EVM wallets (MetaMask and friends)
To use HyperEVM DeFi, bridge HYPE and hold it in an EVM wallet like MetaMask, Rabby or Trust. Remember the wrapped asset is a bridge position with its own contract risk, and gas on HyperEVM is paid in the network's fee token, not HYPE itself. Never share your seed phrase — no legitimate app asks for it.
Staking custody
Staked HYPE stays in your wallet as a delegation — you keep custody, but unstaking enters the 7-day queue. BuyHype publishes the live queue size and APR: a large queue means visible sell supply in the coming week, which matters for timing your own unstake.
Cold storage
Hardware wallets protect keys but interact awkwardly with fast perp trading. A common pattern: cold-store the HYPE you hold long-term, keep a small trading balance on the Hyperliquid app, and treat the hot wallet as disposable. For wrapped HYPE, any EVM-compatible hardware wallet works.
Scam-avoidance rules
Phishing sites impersonating Hyperliquid are the top threat: bookmark app.hyperliquid.xyz, verify every URL, never enter your seed phrase anywhere except a hardware wallet, and ignore DMs offering 'support', airdrops, or recovery. The token itself is not the weak link — your keys are.
Storing vs buying
Custody planning usually follows a buy decision. Before you store it, decide whether to buy it — BuyHype's live Bayesian verdict, valuation multiples and supply data are built exactly for that question.
