The genesis airdrop
On November 29, 2024, Hyperliquid distributed 310M HYPE — 31% of the 1B max supply — to roughly 94,000 early users who had earned points trading on the platform before the snapshot. At launch pricing the drop was worth over $1.2 billion, and HYPE went on to become a top-10 asset by market cap.
Who qualified
Eligibility came from the pre-token points program: users accumulated points for trading volume, liquidity provision and platform usage across several 'seasons'. There was no public whitelist and no purchase — pure usage-based distribution, which is why the airdrop is held up as a model for fair token launches.
Are there new airdrops?
Hyperliquid has not announced further HYPE airdrop rounds. Points seasons for the core token ended with the genesis drop. That said, ecosystem projects built on Hyperliquid — HIP-3 deployers, LSTs, treasuries like PURR — have run their own distributions, so opportunities exist at the ecosystem layer, not from the core protocol.
Legitimate ways to earn HYPE today
Stake HYPE for the live APR; earn trading profits and pay lower fees with a builder code (4% discount via BuyHype's link); provide liquidity via HLP (with its own risk profile); or build on HIP-3 and earn a share of deployer fees. These are yield and fee economics, not airdrops — sized accordingly.
Scam warnings
Fake 'Hyperliquid airdrop round 2' sites, DM offers and 'claim your HYPE' links are common. Hyperliquid does not ask you to connect a wallet to a claim site or send tokens to receive tokens. Only use app.hyperliquid.xyz or links you verify yourself, and never share your seed phrase or private key.
