HYPE staking

How staking HYPE works, what it pays, and what it costs in lockup. We also put staking in context against the other supply flows — the Assistance Fund buyback and the unstaking queue — because yield without context is marketing. Not financial advice.

What staking HYPE does

HYPE holders delegate tokens to validators to secure the Hyperliquid L1 and earn newly issued HYPE as staking rewards. Rewards are gross of validator commission, and issuance scales with total staked — more stakers means a lower rate for everyone.

Current staking APR

The live gross APR sits in the low single digits — around 2% at recent staking levels (BuyHype shows the live figure on its valuation page). Modest by DeFi standards, but the token's other return channel is the buyback-and-burn, not just yield.

How to stake HYPE

Connect a compatible wallet, open the Hyperliquid staking interface in the app, choose a validator (compare commission and uptime), and delegate. There is a small minimum and an unbonding constraint that matters more than the APR: the 7-day unstaking queue.

The 7-day unstaking queue

Unstaking is not instant — you join a queue and receive your tokens roughly 7 days later. BuyHype reads the live queue size as a near-term supply signal: a swelling queue means visible sell-side supply in the next week, a shrinking one means holders are staying put.

Staking vs the Assistance Fund buyback

Staking issuance mints new HYPE (roughly 3%+ of float annually at current levels), while the Assistance Fund buys and burns HYPE with trading fees (covering about 80-90%+ of issuance recently). Net supply change is the number that matters, and it flips with revenue — BuyHype's valuation section tracks issuance, buyback coverage and net supply live.

Risks

Validator slashing or downtime could affect rewards; the 7-day queue locks you out of reacting to price moves; and the APR is an issuance rate, not a guarantee. Compare the net supply picture before treating staking yield as 'free' return.
